The Marshmallow Test

March 13, 2017

The Marshmallow Test is a well-known study on delayed gratification conducted by researchers from the late 1960s onwards. A child is offered a reward immediately, or the chance to wait a short period of about 15 minutes and be given two small rewards. Years later, the scientists reckoned that the children who had been able to wait longer had better life outcomes in terms of academic achievement (and a number of other life measures).

What parent among us has not wondered if our child would pass the test?
